Celebrities Endorse the Hollywood Cookie Diet

Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet is the latest diet fad to grip Hollywood. It seems like every day we hear of another knobby-kneed celebrity signing on to the six cookies a day regimen.

Of course strange eating habits and crash diets are nothing new in the land of the incredible shrinking starlets. Uma Thurman only eats raw food, Christina Aguilera limits herself to foods of one color for each day of the week (white, red, green, orange, purple, yellow, and rainbow), Reese Witherspoon snacks on jarred baby food, and Beyonce downs a mix of lemon juice, maple syrup, water, and cayenne pepper (and nothing else) for 10 day stretches.

Cookie dieters eat six of Dr. Siegal’s cookies each day plus a single, severely restrictive meal consisting of a small portion of  fish or poultry and a cup of  steamed vegetables. No fruit, dairy, grains, or meat. Dr. Siegal claims that dieters don’t feel deprived because they are indulging themselves with cookies. And they don’t suffer from hunger because the cookies are packed with appetite-curbing amino acids—in a top secret formula known only to Dr. Siegal and his wife.

Mandy Moore, Denise Richards, Madonna, Jennifer Hudson, Jennie Garth, Howard Stern, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Shannon Doherty, and Brooke and Hulk Hogan have all seen results from the cookie diet. One-ime cookie endorse Kim Kardashian has played a game of did-she-or-didn’t-she-diet with the press, resulting in a string of lawsuits and counter-suits between Kim and the doctor including a defamation complaint demanding she cease and desist her derogatory twittering.

Sense About Science helps keep things honest. The organization’s stated mission is to respond to the misrepresentation of science and scientific evidence on issues that matter to society. An independent charitable trust with numerous Nobel Laureates among its subscribers, its publication Science for Celebrities investigates the claims and endorsements of celebrities, deeming this an issue that matters to society. So far the group has been awfully quiet about cookie diet claims.
